Want help demystifying how babies eat? Worried about optimizing milk production? There’s so much information out there, and sometimes you may be hearing conflicting messages, or confusing information, and you just want to understand how it all works. The best option is to be prepared with excellent information and support prior to birth.
This class is designed for parents looking for a great prenatal breastfeeding/lactation/infant feeding class. Even those who have previously taken a breastfeeding class comment how much more they got out of this class. Class consists of evidence-based information taught by Becca Marshall, a Certified Lactation Counselor since 2013.
Topics covered are personalized for you and include evidence-based info about:
- Feeding options
- Overview of infant feeding through the first year and beyond
- Preparing for breastfeeding
- Step-by-step breastfeeding
- Best practices in the first few days
- How often babies feed
- Having confidence that baby is getting enough to eat
- Information on combination feeding, if applicable
- Pump basics, if applicable: what kind of pump you may need, how to start a milk stash, introducing a bottle
(for those needing or wanting to learn as much as possible about pumping, please see the Pump Prep class page) - Separating myths & facts
- Any questions you have, including anything specific to your needs/logistics/history
Cost: $75 private in-home session
When to take Intro to Breastfeeding
In general, we suggest scheduling for about 1 month prior to birth, though you are welcome to sign up as early as you wish. For parents who feel more comfortable the earlier they have the information, or who have any risk factors for pre-term birth, we are happy to accommodate dates earlier than 1 month. Its only a recommendation so that the info is fresh in your mind.
Logistics
Class is held in your home, at a time that is convenient for you. I always encourage spouses/partners to attend (if applicable), so that they will hear the same information and know how to support the feeding relationship.
Class is about 2-3 hours (depending on your questions and discussions that help tailor the information to your needs).
