Seven and a half years ago, TLC debuted the show “Sister Wives.” I was fascinated, and so were many of my friends. Based on the show’s immediate success, I’m guessing many of you reading this also watched and were fascinated by what life is like for those in plural marriages. Even the banal, day-to-day stuff seems so much more logistically complicated the more partners you add to the mix.
But even if you don’t imagine yourself sharing a spouse, I’m willing to bet that at some point you’ve at least had an a-ha moment where you’ve thought “Oh, I can totally see where it would be really helpful to have a wife…”
Whether it’s because you’re down-for-the-count sick and could use a Nyquil and a nap.
Or you’ve had a medical procedure and you need a bonus mom to hold down the fort while you recover.
Or you need to be in two places at once.
Or you just want someone to change the roll of toilet paper without asking…
Surely at some point you’ve needed your spouse/partner, AND could really have used a third pair of hands, too.
Well, when you’re talking about the birth of a child, a postpartum doula is that third pair of hands for you (obviously minus the whole sharing a husband thing).
A postpartum doula is someone who can gently guide you through those early days with a new baby and all the questions of “is this normal?” We are someone who has been through the fussy baby phases and can make suggestions for different tips for calming a baby down. We can make sure you have a full glass of water and food in your belly so that you have the energy to care for your baby. We can watch your baby so you can get a nap in. And we can change the roll of toilet paper when we see it’s empty. We can help you with tips and tricks that usually come with time and expertise. And we do so much more.
Let us know if we can be your extra pair of hands. Check out our Postpartum Doula Services page.
